Before the North Philly Peace Park kicked off their season , I found myself motivated to the task of cleaning up an abandoned house front via 17th and Master street.
It took two days for me to completely make the sidewalk walk-able again. By that math , I would be on pace to restore at least 360 houses in a calendar year.
There are many abandoned houses where we live. They are located where we socialize , and they are blaring reminders of a structural dollar that will not offer any redemption in sight.
The psychological impact could leave many to believe that there may not be any hope around you , because no one has ever footed the task to do anything about these properties.
This disturbing constant can continue for months on end and many years.
Eye am here to tell you today , that all is not lost and change through the very forgotten , is something that is extremely doable. It has to come with commitment , promise , optimism , and a long term tending to awash the landscapes perception once more.
Here I will provide a list of what the abandoned houses can be used for
1. Art mural , directed by the community to enhance the psychological aesthetic of the property
2. A mobile activity for children , the elderly , or passionate oriented adults.
3. Food and materials distribution on a guerrilla organized watch.
I've wanted to set an example of how a residences transformation can lead the outside world into believing more than what it is capable of , beyond the given surroundings.
